Giving runs deep at SORTED.
In fact, giving back to our local community was built into the business from the very start.
Michelle Krieg (Owner of SORTED)
A huge part of what inspired me to start SORTED was the opportunity to give back to my local community. As I sorted through the spaces in my home, as my son outgrew his clothes and toys, as my household no longer needed an item, I gifted the items to someone in need.
My mission at SORTED is to give every item I possibly can directly to the organizations and people in our community who need it. As I sort and organize a space for a client, they’ll have the opportunity to donate unwanted items to our local non-profits, charities and directly to people in need. Learn more about how we do that below.
We Do Things Differently
At SORTED we take discarded items a few steps further than most organizers. Not only do we take recycling seriously as we declutter, we help support our community service organizations. Many of our local non-profits and charities need specific items, but are frequently short of fulfilling those needs. At SORTED we help to fill those needs with the items our clients no longer use or want to keep.
Instead of doing a bulk drop off to the Goodwill (or similar thrift store) we sort through the items one-by-one so they can be donated to the non-profits, charities and community programs in need of those specific items.
For example:
women’s clothing & hygiene items can be taken to a domestic violence organization
men’s clothing & bedding can be donated to our local homeless shelters
clothing, shoes, books and games for young adults can be donated to programs serving homeless & at-risk youth
baby & children’s items can be taken to organizations that serve moms & families
furniture & bedding can be donated to emergency housing organizations
food items can be donated to our local food pantries
pet supplies, food, toys & bedding can be donated to animal welfare organizations

Recycling
If it can’t be repurposed or donated to those in need, we do our best to recycle as many discarded items as possible, including electronics, personal hygiene and makeup containers, paint cans and much more, through local recycling centers and private recycling programs. See Local Resources for more info.
